This is one of my Rg 34 K98 rifle cleaning kits. It was made in 1938 by Gustav Appel Maschinenfabrik. Stamped on the left side of top lid is the serial number of the rifle this kit was issued with.  On the right side of top lid, makers name is stamped with WaA500  next to that. A Unit or kit number is stamped on the lower front of kit. Kit has most of it`s original finish. Prior to 1939 kits were "tinned" instead of painted. All internal contents are present. The oiler is maker marked and dated 1937. The take down tool (spoon) and chain are maker marked and dated 1938. The chain is also WaA 500 marked. The two brushes are not marked in this kit ,but some brushes were marked. The bottom compartment holds cotton cleaning wicks. Sometimes gun grease was stored there.
