Hi everyone,

 

Just had some questions about this South African Police Uniform Set.

 

Can anyone help identify if this particular uniform was made in the 70's or 80's? Also does anyone know if this is the 1st SA police pattern or the second SA police pattern? I know its not the third pattern due to the pinwheel shape.  There is not much info out there on these uniforms other than Osprey books. I tend to think that the uniform was 1980's manufacture since there is velcro on the cuffs. 

 

Does anyone know the history of this particular pattern and what units it was used by?

 

Any  help would be greatly appreciated since there aren't many resources out there on the topic. If anyone knows of any reference material that is available please let me know.

- Just wanted some clarification as to other units besides the SA police that wore this pattern. I thought I remembered seeing  an older documentary that Reece commandos and 32nd battalion possibly wore the 1st SA police pattern. Is that an accurate statement?  Also was this pattern used by SA police forces that were operating in Rhodesia?

 

If anyone can confirm or provide some clarification on this I'd be grateful.

South African Police 1st pattern, used while on anti terrorist operations or border patrols, also used in Rhodesia by S.A.P. Units deployed there until 1974. Not officially worn by any other units except The S.A.D.F. 32 Battalion who used this pattern camo on their Berets only!

I’ll try and find an article printed in Militaria Magazine which deals with this uniform

Thanks for answering my questions regarding the set and posting some similar examples from your own collection. That helps a great deal, because I was originally told the jacket and pants I had were the second pattern police camo; but I had some doubts. 

 

That’s great to know that the set I posted is the first pattern. 

If you get around to finding that article in Militaria magazine; let me know what issue it’s from.  I’ll definitely have to pick a copy up if they are still out there.

 

Wish there was more collectors reference material on the subject.
