November 1, 20214 yr #1 Good Morning Gents, I recently had to order an E.K. II ( Iron Cross ) Replacement Ribbon from Germany to replace the missing one on one of my Medal Groups. ( It's alleged to be from very old stock, but who truly knows ? ) Upon receipt, I thought it appeared somewhat thinner than the usually observed examples, although I could very well be wrong ? It measures exactly 1" / 25 cm in width ? Is this the correct width of the average WW1 Imperial German E.K. II Award Ribbon drape ? Any assistance will be very much appreciated. November 11, 20214 yr #2 After doing some research I think the "official" correct width of the medals´ribbon should be 30 mm. I checked an EK II from a friend and it has a 30 mm ribbon as well. Unfortunately I can´t tell you if custom made 25 mm wide ribbons are legit as well but I have noticed that a lot of modern made ribbons are offered everywhere.

I had initially thought that by ordering one from Germany, I would be more likely to receive an original, era production length of ribbon. However, I'm no longer that sure. Thanks again !! November 12, 20214 yr #4 I can’t give you the measurements at the moment, but ribbon came in different widths for issue, worn on a ribbon bar, worn as a single medal or worn as part of a complete group, or worn on a tunic button hole.
November 13, 20214 yr #5 The medals I’ve checked are as issued ie un mounted ribbon 30 or 32mm but most medals mounted on a bar the ribbons on these are usually 25mm and 25mm for buttonhole wear here’s a good book on German mounting style s
November 13, 20214 yr Author #6 THANK YOU 'Kia kaha', I deeply appreciate your very kind reply, & efforts to solve the issue as to correct EKII ribbon measurements !! As obtained, the EKII in question was part of an multi piece Group, which IIRC, was discussed here on this Forum not too long ago. As the piece in question was sans ribbon, I thought I should at least obtain an replacement, if only for display purposes. Having ordered it from Germany, & at least 'partially believing' the seller's assurance of it being from 'old stock', I accepted it at face value & purchased it. ( It wasn't very expensive at all. ) So, apparently there are 2 distinct width types of ribbon drape applicable to the EKII Awards, dependent upon the particular mounting style being used. At least for my specific purposes, the 25cm version should suffice just fine, although I do at some point intend to obtain the 30cm version when found.
