Hello Everyone, 

Im hoping to get some opinions and information about this type of badge.  What do I look for in an original, and when were they first seen on the battlefield?  I have a photo from the internet to show the type I’m talking about. I look forward to hearing from the more knowledgeable members of the forum.

Nice find!  Sorry for the late response but I just joined the forum this month.  Your hat / pith helmet badge appears to be an original National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) badge.  There were clearly variations in style over time but I'd say you've got the real deal there.
