November 28, 20214 yr #1 Denomination Iraqi Model-90 these were 1'st manufactured in country in 1988 and were modelled after the Model-80 helmet which were imported from South Korea and distributed the same year and used in to the 2000's... The M-90 were constructed of fibres imbedded in plastic and formed by succession of layers of canvas, these layers of fabric are embedded in a plastic resin and formed in a high pressure mould they weigh in at approximately 1190 grams... The helmet thickness is 5 millimetres which makes them substantially much heavier than there predecessor the Model-80 which weighs in at 935 grams... Ironically though they do not provide the same quality of ballistic protection as the M-80 this can be chalked up to the materials that were used for construction ( cotton fibres imbedded in Corlon resin ) ... This particular helmet is a later produced model as it is sporting a cradle type suspension as opposed to the riddle type liner as found in earlier examples, there are six anodized steel A-washers that are used to hold the cradle in place these are set through the helmet body with 6 pre-painted beige sand coloured rivets... The chinstrap is constructed of 13 millimetre wide cotton fabric and utilizes a roller buckle for tension adjustment, this example still has the tan protective peripheral rubber ring that was used to protect the rim of the helmet they are inherently quite brittle and can be cracked and damaged easily... Scott Thanx Scott pleased to have this one on the shelf it was a recent gift from a fellow collector in the UK whom has just sent me another M-80 as part of a helmet trade ...So now that opens up a whole other avenue for collecting so I can see that with the multiple variations of Iraqi M-80's and M-90's which of course includes camo painted and flashed examples this may take some time ...
