I bought this photo while rummaging through the Photo Collection of the National Archives in College Park, MD.  The caption said it was a German 105mm Howitzer.  But every German howitzer that I could find doesn't have wheels as seen in this photo.  These wheels sure look American.  Most of the German cannons I find do not have a riveted frame.  That seems unusual to me or maybe an early production.  I have always wanted an explanation of this photo. 

 

Also the cannon looks so much like an American piece, but even the US Model M-1 didn't have a carriage like this.  Maybe it is French or one the French gave to the US during WW1.

 

What is the model name for this specific Howitzer? 

It looks like a British 25-pounder; full name Ordnance QF 25-pounder, they saw service throughout World War 2 with British and Commonwealth forces. It could well be a captured example and so the caption could be correct. The Germans used captured examples with the Mk I designated 8.76 cm Feldkanone 280(e), MK II designated 8.76 cm Feldkanone 281(e).
