Who really wore this, seeing that the Canadians had unit cap badges of their own.

Here's one, a WWII Canadian Officer.

Well, worn in the movies by Sylvester Stallone.  The movie about the football game between Allied prisoners and German soldiers I think.  I can't remember the name of the motion picture though.

Specialists employed by the the Canadian Army, for instance translators, war artists and personnel in uniform who are not in a Regiment or Corps. Recruits would not wear a badge until completion of basic training,then they would wear the units badge they were assigned to.
Canadians attached to S.O.E. may have worn this badge while in uniform.

Victory was the American release title, world wide it was 'Escape to Victory', and these were the real stars of the film

 

Pele, Michael Caine & Max von Sydow

 

 

 

I read somewhere that when the soccer stadium scenes were shot, that the movie producers put out fliers for people to come watch Pele in an exposition with the request for them to wear vintage clothing. They had a large group of spectators at the stadium, but very few wore anything that really looked vintage. When they saw Stallone trying to play goalie, they were unhappy because he couldn't stop any balls. They got restless and were booing and jeering most of the players, but would cheer wildly when Pele was handling the ball.

 

At the end of the escape scene, you can see several "fans" wearing polyester windbreakers and the like.

I love the beginning of the game when a German Army Band marches across the field executing some great evolutions while playing the Hohenfriedberger (Auf Ansbach Dragoner)
