My buddy has this cast iron Mills Bomb training aid. I think it is shaped like a No. 5 bomb. I have a few questions.

Does anybody know when this type was produced? As early as the first WW? 

What was it officially called?

It has writing on the “lever/spoon” but the rust obscures it too much for me to read. Anybody know what it said? Is it the makers name?
