February 1, 20242 yr Author #40 Here's a Groom in Uniform. Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark Yes he still was in the Navy at the time of his marriage to Princess Elizabeth in 1947. His duty assignments after his marriage include a Staff Assignment at the Admiralty in London, followed by Sea Duty aboard the relatively new destroyer HMS Chequers, and upon promotion to Lieutenant Commander July 1950, he becomes skipper of the frigate HMS Magpie, he left the Navy in July 1951, though he was promoted to Commander in June 1952, probably as Reserve List thing, and later till in January 1953 Admiral of the Fleet, though here we imagine it is an honorary thing right.
August 10, 2025Aug 10 #42 This is one of my father's maternal uncles, he identified as Arthur Montgomery, and his wife Catherine Cunningham. Circa 1942 ~ 1943. The photograph was made in a studio in Port Glasgow, Scotland. Private Montgomery was a welder in a shipyard, and his war was spent with 10th Battalion, the Highland Light Infantry Regiment, 227th Infantry Brigade, 15th {Scottish} Division. He lasted a few weeks in action before being severely wounded by a German grenade during the Normandy Campaign sometime in July 1944, and was subsequently invalided back to the U.K., where he spent the remainder of the war.
