Photos of a Colonial Veteran

Gents,

Here are a couple of photographs of a WWI Colonial Service Veteran.  This Schutztruppen soldier is a veteran of service in one of the African Colonies as witnessed by his distinctive broad brimmed hat and uniform.  Knowing the color of the piping on his uniform would show just which African colony he served in.  His uniform is made of khaki corduroy material with silver buttons showing the Imperial German crown. His shoulder cords, worn on the left shoulder, are red/black/white showing the German national colors.  He is also wearing a medal bar and a metal veteran association eagle over his right breast pocket.  His leather belt is brown with a silver buckle.

Seldom seen photos.

Here is an example of the DSW (German South-West Africa Colony) veteran uniform.  This corduroy uniform has blue piping indicating the specific African Colony.  Notice the Southern Star patch on the left lower sleeve and the later WWI veteran metal breast eagle.
