I found this at a flea market the other day.  I would like to know anything about it that you can tell me.  Would also like to know for sure that it’s World War II vintage.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it from 1980?

Certainly not WW2 and not military related

 

Its a climbing stick for Mount Fuji. 1980 is probably the year if I had to guess... you can buy this exact style flag and stick even today but in recent years the flags seem to be made of a more synthetic material.  

 

They are sold at shops before starting the climb and at the various stations on the way to the summit you can get the stick stamped like this one is.

 

The writing is just about Fuji... "commemoration of climbing Mount Fuji", "3,776 meters above sea level", etc..
