Found this zippo lighter and I just wanted to learn more about this and if it really is real or just some kind of repro. I have seen some people say that Germans never used zippos and some say that German zippos from ww2 are real. Any information would be good. Thanks.

I’ve never seen anything like it and I’m not a fan. The markings look fake as well. 

It is an army pattern eagle with RZM (party) markings- that is enough to call it a fake. the waffen amt eagle proof is also something that has no business being there.

Thanks for the information. Who would even make something like this? Did germans even use zippos in ww2?

I am sure if a German soldier liberated a ZIPPO from an American soldier he would use it.

I have attached pictures of what pre-war and wartime ZIPPO bottom markings looked like.

The war time lighters were usually covered in a black crackle finish.

The bottoms were rounded, not flat or indented like todays lighters. (unless it is a special edition made to look like the WW 2 lighters)
