Hello, I got this German M42 at an expo a few months ago for €40 and i was wondering if its actually an M42 and or if the  attachment was done recently to draw attention or was it done after the war?

-it has  also been  repainted recently and because of it i can't see any marks 

- its a size 60-62 since it looks quite small on the pictures.

I have one that was made to a colander, it was rounded out handles attached and holes punched out to drainand finally enameled. This was done post war with many different items mainly helmets and gasmask cans. Although ive never seen one as crude as yours these alterations are post war in a country that had necessities why not re-use and salvage rather than make new

I've seen them turned into flower pots, as well
