Hello everyone,

I am an Englishman living and working in south-west France.

I have been on the USMF for a couple of years and have only just realized there is a worldwide version so thought I had better join this one too.

I collect medals and although I have been doing so for around 40 years, it is only since the internet, and more disposable income, that my collection has got both larger and more specialised. I collect many diverse medals that take my interest, but these are the areas in which I am specifically focused (and yes some of them are very niche).

1873-74 British Ashantee medals to HMS Dromedary

Only 81 medals were issued to this transport ship. I have 9 of them so far and I am looking for the others (for no particularly good reason).

WWI British 1st Essex Regiment Medals

To those men known to have been present at Monchy Le Preux on 14th April 1917, fighting alongside the 1st Newfoundland Regt during the wider battle of Arras (northern France). On that day the two regiments (ca. 2000 men in total) were virtually wiped out as a fighting force and until restocking, the two regts had to combine to temporarily form what was called the 1st NewfoundEssex Regt. Of the 1000 or so Essex men who come out of the trench that morning, approx 1/4 killed, 1/4 injured, 1/4 captured, 1/4 returned unscathed.

I found out a while back that my great-great uncle was killed here so I collect medals to his comrades and I also walked the battlefield site on the exact 100th anniversary of his death.

WWI Interallied Victory medals etc

National victory medals

The various bars on the US medal

US state victory medals

US Town and County victory / peace medals

UK peace medals

French Verdun medals

French anniversary commemorative medals

I also have quite a number of specialist medal books in my library so will help with any questions I can answer if I see them on the forum.

best wishes to all

Rob
