I recently purchased a pistol that came with a pigskin holster. The holster is in wonderful condition - but it absolutely wreaks of smoke! The seller must live inside an ashtray - I've rarely smelled anything that strong! 🤢

 

I've tried spraying some Febreeze inside to absorb some of the odor but it only lasts for a couple of minutes. Any "professional" tips on getting rid of the scent? It's so bad that I may just throw it away rather than keep it in my house.

I have a Kriegsmarine coastal artillery helmet that was in a fire, i put the liner in a ziplock bag with mothballs(not touching the leather) for over a year. It worked for me. Do not throw it out, if you want to get rid of it ill take the project on.. Dwayne

Dryer sheets are also effective, and they don’t have the offensive (to some) odor of moth balls. I used dryer sheets between pages of a large book that had an overpowering mildew smell. Toned it down significantly.
