January 31, 20233 yr #1 Well I'm back on the "western front". I'm building a Tamiya Jagdtiger "Hunting" Tiger. It's the old motorized model. This will be my second assault gun/tank destroyer. I've primed it with the German primer colors and added a minimum of equipment. I ordered track links, but I didn't care for the ones I received. So more were ordered and should be here in a day or two. I'll start painting my vehicle soon and add figures and a base. Here are a couple of pictures. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny
January 31, 20233 yr #2 Aaah, finally another new modeling project over here! This tank was a monster, it looks great so far. I´m curious how you´ll paint it. Looking forward to seeing the next steps.
February 5, 20233 yr Author #3 Well, I've given the Jagdtiger a dark yellow base coat and I received the new track links which I've started to put together as you can see in the background. As for the color scheme, since this Jagdtiger was with the 512th Heavy Tank Battalion, it just had the dark yellow color. But I'll probably add some small green stripes and foliage. Semper Fi. Manny
February 6, 20233 yr #4 Looks great! The Aberdeen Ordnance museum used to have one of these, it’s a menacing looking machine. Great subject and work. I look forward to seeing it finished.
February 12, 20233 yr Author #5 Well, here are some WIP pics. The tracks are finally on, and they've been given their initial painting. I've got some tools to add on along with painting them on the upper hull. Since this is a vehicle that's seen a couple of skirmishes, it will have a battle veteran look to it. Semper Fi. Manny
February 15, 20233 yr #8 Awesome job so far, Manny. The hull came out great. I also like the absolute metal look of the tracks. Very nice!
February 16, 20233 yr Author #9 Hey Lars, Rich & Mikie, thanks for the comments. I did some work on the Hunting Tiger. Especially some preliminary weathering. I have more to do but here are some WIP pics. I gave the tracks their metal and rust weathering. I added some of the tools and the spare tracks and I attached the upper and lower hulls, but they're not glued together, yet. Now comes the weathering, decals and transfers and any other tweaking that I might do prior to starting on the figures and base. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated, Semper Fi. Manny
February 17, 20233 yr #12 As usual an excellent application of paint, filters and washes. I like it very much!
February 21, 20233 yr Author #13 Hey All. Just want to announce that this Jagdtiger is basically finished. I'll tweak some things when I add it to the base, like using pigments to blend the tracks and road wheels to the ground and it is definitely getting a foliage application. But as for weathering, this is about it. Now I will be doing the figures for the vehicle and some infantry on the ground. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny
February 21, 20233 yr #16 I’m waiting too, great build and very realistic. Looking forward to your foliage. Prep
February 28, 20233 yr Author #17 Well, the foliage is on this heavy tiger. It's mainly lichen with turf weed and ferns and foliage. The ferns and foliage look a bit too stark, so I'm debating on painting down their colors. I'm playing it by sight/ear. I know that the foliage hides a lot of the weathering and vehicle markings, but I figure, this is like those models that come with full interiors and although no one sees it, I know it's there. I've started on the figures for both the jagdtiger and panzergrenadiers. Enjoy the pictures and all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny
March 1, 20233 yr #19 You do great work! my one overriding question though revolves around what look like palm fronds. Are their plants in Europe that have fronds like this? I would expect to see a lot of evergreen types of foliage and the fronds are throwing me off. Allan
March 3, 20233 yr Author #21 Thanks for the comments. Allan, those foliage fronds are really ferns. I need to add some more and I'll tweak the foliage by airbrushing those ferns and fronds colors down. Lars I'll put up that pic soon.
March 4, 20233 yr Author #22 Hey Lars, per your request, the pics from above. My "camouflaged" netting seems to have lost some color due to the scenic glue I used to keep it in place. BTW those are two of the figures for the jagdtiger and there are 5 more infantry figures to follow. Semper Fi. Manny
March 12, 20233 yr Author #24 I've been taking my time with this project, and also I've been waiting for a mail delivery. But I've been busy with the figures, weapons and equipment. So here are a few WIP pics of the figures. Semper Fi. Manny
March 12, 20233 yr #25 I recognize some of the Tamiya figures. Looking forward to see how you do the "Erbsentarn" pattern of the camo uniform. Great work so far.
