Unusual to use barbed wire as something to lean on. Any idea what the German soldier is holding, a shovel? Maybe they are on leave? The Swiss look like they came to a fight compared to the Germans who look rather lackadaisical.
July 4, 20233 yr Author #5 I suspect the Germans are on a work detail of some kind, as they are neither armed or even wearing belts, the one hold what I believe is a shovel is a ve, got te Wound Badge in Silver.
July 18, 20233 yr Author #7 Date and location on frontier unknown. The Nazi banner, don't think we ever seen one like it, is it familiar to anyone else?
June 29, 20242 yr #9 The Germans must be on a partial work detail, notice the RAD insignia behind the young German soldier in the second from the last picture. Must have been a strange situation for the Swiss and the Germans. Being on friendly terms with each other while knowing you may have to shoot them or be shot in the next moment.
June 30, 20242 yr #10 I don't think that's a RAD insignia. It's on a hat that looks more like a Frech Kepi. I even think I see piping around the top of it. Dark blue or black uniform with bright (gold?) buttons. I looked on the map, and there is a place where the French, German and Swiss borders all come together at one point. If it's French police, then that truly adds another layer to the photo. Here's the closest I could find. The left side of the insignia in the above post is bigger than the example here.
