The seller, if the same as the link below, has a large inventory of TR flags for sale and appears to be an experienced collector as well as dealer. It is encouraging to see the dealership will provide a certificate of authenticity and happy to take the item back if you are not satisfied within 5 days. The material gives the impression it is made to last and the writing on the label stitched which maybe too much detail for any reproduction or forgery, I'd also ask myself would a reputable dealer put his name to a rare, weather worn flag, he knows is counterfeit. July 10, 20233 yr Author #3 I do not have much experience, but I know there are books I can get to help me better understand which flag was made in that period compared to a modern one. I am also reading about what flags should look like or be made out of. And time periods.
July 10, 20233 yr #4 The flag looks good, Tom Whitman is a good dealer. An unusual city Organizational flag, but you will find many "oddball" flags like this that are almost "one off's". Decide what you like and try and focus. The books will tell you about the different designs and organizations not as much about construction and materials. Get out and handle some. The show of shows in Lousiville in Feb is a great place to see hundreds (if not thousands) of flags.
July 10, 20233 yr Solution #5 One of the most knowledgeable folks I knew is the late Ben Weed. (Rest in Peace my Friend). His knowledge of flags and the Third Reich was remarkable. Looking at this flag and the Fahnen Tag I would have no issues adding this unique flag to my collection. There is a great flag reference that Ben worked tirelessly on at the WAF and it remains a good reference for makers of the flags as well as reproductions. Leigh
