This topic arose recently on another forum when the inconsistent colour of British Army cap badges was raised. One of the experienced members advised that the 'gilding metal' used to make the badge was an alloy of copper and zinc and its colour varied according to the proportions of each metal.' I also notice the buttons that are visible on your tunic appear to be that of the Royal Army Service Corps. One observation that may require some attention is the label sown into the collar. Does this appear modern or am I mistaken and it's a dry cleaning ticket? Difficult to see. If a label then it might be a good idea to look at others purporting to be of the same age. Gunner...
