Many years ago I was given two photographs by a British ex Royal Engineers Officer obtained at the end of World War Two.

 

The images are of the bomb damage caused during 'Operation Gomorrah', a joint Bomber Command and US 8th Air Force attack on Hamburg starting July 24th 1943 and lasting eight days and seven nights.

 

The photographs were taken and processed by the Germans at the time of the raids.
