I received this insignia in a collection of World War 1 era US, British and Canadian items.  

 

I had some discussion with another Forum member several years ago but did not reach a conclusion on this brevet.  I have also looked at several on-line references for Australian insignia and have not found a match.

Back has a faint notation "Australian Flying Corps" in pencil.  No other markings found.

 

 

Any information or suggested reference is appreciated.  Comments are welcome.
