I'm Japanese, but this sword looked more like a Chinese or Korean sword than a Japanese sword.

 

If the bird engraved on the sword is a bat, it may be related to the fact that it is considered particularly auspicious in China and Korea.

 

But I'm not a sword expert.

 

Please take this opinion with a grain of salt.

Not a WWII Japanese sword from what I can see.  I think Mr. Bushido is correct that it is a Chinese reproduction.
