    I have one more questions/request.. What are the dimensions of this piece. 

     

    This could be either a shako/hat plate or for a buckle. The placement of the prongs on the backside look identical to the placement of the prongs on the back of the miners buckle but based on the size of this image, it may as I stated be a hat or shako plate

    There is a good link (above) that shows some images of the buckles as well as period documents that show that this may also be a hat badge for miners.
