I found this saw a while ago. What position did the soldier use it for?

And I'm curious about the exact usage

Are there any markings on the ends of the saw where the two rings are? The pouch itself looks to have British hardware, so I am leaning towards this being a British folding saw.

Right above the 14 is the British broad arrow.. British issue

Does the number 14 mean it?

Typically a number below the /|\ Broad Arrow symbol indicates the number assigned to an inspector, not the year of manufacture.
