April 11, 20242 yr #1 These came to the museum as part of the collection of our deceased Treasurer. As many of you have seen from other posts, it was a massive collection centered mostly on WWI. These jackets were a mystery as they have Italian collar insignia for artillery and engineers, the front buttons are almost certainly replaced and we could find nothing in any Italian uniform references about jackets like this. About a week ago a friend came out and was looking at them and he noticed a rip in one on the inside. Wouldn't you know, it was stamped in large letters "Belgique" between the button flap... This made more sense than Italian as the epaulet buttons are domed and silver in color and Belgium had a large colonial empire. We still don't know the exact era or use but we think it likely that they were made for colonial enlisted troops as there are no pockets and they are pretty basic in design.
