June 2, 20242 yr #1 Just before closing yesterday a man brought in some of his Grandfather's items, which included a few things from Okinawa. The sailor, Chester L. M a y e s) was a Motor Machinist Mate Third Class who served aboard LST 813. He brought back a mint Hinomaru (2X3) with paper corners and tie strings intact, a pair of chop sticks, and a couple Japanese booklets that have fold out graphs(?). There might be some more things coming...the grandson has the sailor's daily diary that he forgot to bring. Does anyone have any idea what these are???? Mark sends
June 2, 20242 yr #2 This item is very interesting! It is a booklet outlining new policies established by the Japanese military headquarters. It seems that this policy began to be applied around 1941. The contents are about unit training, and in the square at the top right of the cover it says "Confidential".
