June 26, 20242 yr #1 Are these WW2 Royal Navy uniforms used by a wartime Belgian officer? I understand the Belgian government in exile during WW2 fought with the British/Allied forces. There is no lable, but it is named to a "D. Blackwell." What do you think? What does the purple represent on the epaulettes (perhaps engineer officer)?
June 27, 20242 yr #2 In 1865 it was decided that British naval engineers would wear a purple background to their gold braid of rank in order to distinguish them from other officers and that colour coding transferred to the British mercantile engineer officers when they started wearing uniforms.
