December 12, 20241 yr #1 Doing research on this Group to a French resistance fighter "PERNELLE Jean Alexis Ferdinand" Who was present during the "UNION II" OSS Mission Drop over the Saisies Pass in SAVOIE I should mention I am a US member and don't have much experience with the F.F.I. or read French so a bit at a loss. Looking for clarification on the following problem I am having deciphering the Unit number shown in this cropped image shown below The above image is part of the Official Paperwork, TITLED CERTIFICATE OF MEMBERSHIP in the French Forces of the Interior Dated 14 FEV 1950 For/sent to Monsieur PERNELLE Jean Alexis Ferdinand Please Note, Generated by The General Commanding the 8th Military Region. I cant make out the NUMBER is it a 3 or 5 or even an 8 ??? Thinking this came from the 8th Military Region it may stand to reason its the 8 Bat. A.S. SAVOIE ALSO what does the A.S. Stand for ??? Another issue is the LIST OF PARTICIPATION IN OPERATIONS from this 1944 dated paperwork. Below can anyone decipher the list Thanks and since i am at it I will add his patches. Believe the F.F.I. may be post war but the Triangle was mentioned as worn during the war.

December 14, 20241 yr #4 You welcome, the résistance FFI are not very often well documented as there is so many Maquis. Even in France, so I assume this wasn't easy for you. The Savoie maquis were very active as the Alpians montains were a key place for the Allied force. I m curious to know how this stuff finished in California ? 😊

He decided one day to Commemorate the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Marine OSS Mission to Savoie/Hautes Savoie (UNION II) Includes photos of this Marine with Mrs ORTEZ and the two surviving members of the mission at the 2004 Ceremony Has scan of News paper article (2004) with photos as well also included Poster and brochures from the 1984 anniversary BTW Yes it required a Trade of a AVG Flying Tiger Pin and a stack of Cash. But it is only part of a Bigger Group for the "UNION II" Mission 2003/2004 This sub group, SAVOIE resistance grouping was received from the Family of one of the then young men who was on the Saisies mountain top. Group also includes his personnel Sten Gun Mag, His Green war time worn mountain smock, His Boots, and a Knuckle knife that the family says he was very proud of (traded for from another American solder who came through after the Drop) and his FATHERS 1891 Military Pass / Paybook The Large SAVOIE Resistance Pin was found in 2003 on a Flea Market day in Annecy France by the French Sergeant Major who later Authored the Book "British Parachutes" Full Group includes DROP Canister, and Experimental British Type X Harness (one of the actual harnesses used on the Union II Mission said to be Sgt Perry but only a verbal quote so cant be proven, is pictured in the Book BRITISH PARACHUTES by Jean-Louis PERQUIN

BUT ????
