Most historians and model builders are aware of the German WW II 8.8 cm Flak (Flugabwehrkanone). The "Acht-Acht" was mounted on several tanks and tracked vehicles during the war. Less well known is a wheeled vehicle with it. Only one Luftwaffe AAA Regiment was equipped with 24 of these vehicles and not one of them survived the war.

I´m aware of one vacu and one resin kit that existed in the past but they were very expensive and unavailable for me. "Das Werk", a German model maker released the VOMAG with 8.8 I think two years ago and when I saw it the first time I knew that I had to get me one.

So here´s another modeling project I have started today. First of all a picture of the box and a look into it. The kit consits of 16 sprues with hundreds of parts, and a sheet with photo etched parts. A real bonus is a 40 pages booklet with a lot of very usefull information and colorized photos of the gun, the vehicle and the model.

I have started with the chassis of the carrier vehicle (which was in fact a modified bus) consisting of 80 parts so far.

The Vomag kit comes with a very detailed but not easy to build Flak 36 without Flak shield. The attached booklet shows several colorized pictures of Vomag Flak vehicles in different campaigns. The photographs taken 1945 in Budapest are showing two Vomag trucks with 8,8 Flak 36/37 with "kinked" protection shield. A late war variant I found only with the 1/35 scale 8,8 "Trumpeter" kit.

So here are a couple of photos of the two possible truck/Flak combinations. I added a Tamiya 8,8 Flak with straight shield for comparison.

Excellent work, Lars. I like the other 88's for comparison. Looking forward to the painting process, to bring this vehicle and Flak gun to life. I'm going to check my books to see if I have any pics of this Flak gun on this truck.

Some WIP photos out of the spray booth. Surface prime is Vallejo German Panzer Grey. Base color are several layers of Tamiya dark yellow XF-60. The irregular dots are airbrushed with Tamiya red brown (XF-64) and olive green (XF-58).

Detail painting has begun. First washes and decals applied, giving the vehicle a darker but also glossy look. It now needs another layer of matt varnish.

Rich & Terry thank you! This is my first "Das Werk" model and I´m really impressed by the detail. For sure not easy to build so I wouldn´t recommend it for beginners but a great kit overall. For me the attached booklet was the icing on the cake.

Hey Lars, great work! Excellent camouflage. I especially like the darkened Dark Yellow which gives the vehicle a realistic look.
