Canadian Scheldt Trophy - German Navy War Merit Pennant

Hello

Found this at an estate sale in B.C. .  Appears to be a German Naval War Merit Pennant in rough shape and glued to a cloth panel.  It has a label that says it was captured by the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade at Zijpe Holland during the Scheldt Campaign 5th November 1944 and presented to General Moncel.  During the battle the Lake Superior Regiment (motor) and the British Columbia Regiment (28th CAR) sunk or damaged 4 German naval vessels (3 armed converted landing ships and a Corvette-like ship). Later men rowed over and collected German flags to prove what had happened.

Apparently, this Battle was the first time land based tanks had sunk warships.

I understand that these War Merit pennants were awarded for sinking enemy ships.  It is very faded and a good part of it is missing.

I found a few articles describing the events, but I am wondering if there is more information out there about this item or the men involved.

I am including a picture of 3 of the vessels involved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Rob
