Japanese flag, good buy or pass it up?

Someone has this flag and is selling it for 400. It’s a silk kanji flag. Would this be a good buy or pass it up?

hello,

without knowing what is written on it, I would say $400 is a retail price.  Now if says something related to a specific unit that can maybe be traced back to something then it could be worth a lot more.  If you like it and do not have one, I would say maybe offer $350.  But you won't be 'taking a bath' on it at $400.  Sorry if this does not help.

If you don't have a translator handy, try using AI Translator app. I've had success using it to translate German & other European languages

An unsuspecting Allied pilot reaches into his pocket for a few “greenbacks” in order to purchase a newly minted “Japanese good luck flag” from this cigar chomping navy SeaBee. (source: Foreign Service Magazine, February 1949).

The orientation shown in the photo is the back side.

The kanji looks like it was written by a Japanese speaker.

Is it a good flag?

I cannot calculate its value, but it is likely a flag used to encourage soldier going off to war, and I believe it is significant.

With Japanese flags, how do you know it is authentic. The ones I got , are all silk. Like the one I posted. And also, when they get faded , are they worth less then clean white ones?
