Finally found my Holy Grail Brass Cuban belt buckle

After many years of searching I found this brass, Soviet made Cuban belt buckle.

I would love to find another but I'm happy with this one.

It looks like it's been through a war or two. It will only take a leather belt.

Very nice, did they only come in this style or are there brass FAR and sterile buckles as well?   Scott

As FAR as I know, (pun intended) the sterile buckles came in brass and steel, I have both. All of the FAR buckles I have and have seen are steel.

As far as this buckle, it looks like I got skunked. When I went to clean it up a bit more all the "brass" came off.

So, I am still looking for a SOLID BRASS Cuban belt buckle.

wat, wat, waaaah.......

OK, maybe I didn't get as skunked as I thought.

When I look closer at this buckle it MAY be zinc plated brass.

I can see where the zinc is wearing on the high spots and where what appears to be brass peaking through.

So, now I need the one and only world's best expert on Soviet Russian buckles to tell me if such a beast exist. LOL

I can only imagine that a zinc plated brass CUBAN buckle is not your run of the mill buckle.🤞 (fingers crossed)

I believe I read on a Russian forum that they used to brass plate steel buckles so who knows what they were experimenting with to fight wear and corrosion??
