Currently there is a seller on eBay called "fossil specimens" from China that along with what is almost certainly a duplicate account of his (named differently but with similar items for sale and prices) their selling these banners with mao and lei feng (a communist role model character made during the cultural revolution) along with general PLA surplus and even stranger, plenty of 1930s communist china flags. I've ordered 2 of these banners but have been hard pressed to find any info on them. There is only one place where someone else has mentioned these banners, but I don't know where they got their info for these banners from. They're also fairly cheap, which I find odd since if they really do date back to the 1960/70s, I feel they would be going for a lot more. the fact this one seller also has a surplus of them is weird.

 

They all seem to have the same manufacturers stamp which I have a photo of down below

Does anyone know anything about these kind of banners? I've looked on many stock photo sites of Chinese buildings and such during the 60s/70s, and I can't find anything like these banners during that time. They all share the same common trend of red silk(?) or bare cotton kanvas(?) background, with red text and symbols, and yellow fringe at the bottom.

I have been there twice. You can buy just about anything you want with Mao on it. While I do not recall specifically seeing banners I would bet that they are newly made and available for the tourist trade. 

Cancelled my orders for these so that's it for my part of this thread. Would still be interested in more historical background on these, assuming there is any to begin with.
