I have some kind of periscope binoculars and what looks like maybe a surveying instrument of some kind. any info on them would be interesting. One question I have though is why would the letters be in English instead of Japanese? I'm assuming these are WW2 era, but I don't know. Thanks

Mark

They look like Japanese WW2 but I'm not big on Japanese optics. The Japanese did use English words and letters on some items including optics, I was looking for a date but I didn't see any. I checked my notes and they were made by Tokyo Optics. Did you post all of the Kanji on the scope?. These are in nice shape.

Several kanji characters can be seen, such as "乾" and "脱↔︎駐","近?隊".

Among them, "隊" is used for the military, rescue teams, fire brigades, etc.

Thanks Shemp and Mr. Bushido. I don't see any other markings on them but they are very clear to look through.
