February 28Feb 28 #1 Hello everyone, I would like to present a German Westwall Medal (Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen) on ribbon from an estate grouping. Designation: German Westwall Medal (Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen) on ribbon Material: presumed zinc (non-magnetic) Weight: 17 g Measurements: approx. 40 mm height / 34 mm width (oval) Ring: unmarked Ribbon: brown ribbon with white edge stripes The obverse shows the eagle above a sword and shovel, and the reverse bears the inscription “Für Arbeit zum Schutze Deutschlands”. The Westwall Medal was instituted on August 2, 1939, and awarded to individuals who participated in the construction or planning of the Westwall (Siegfried Line) beginning October 1, 1938. Recipients included construction workers, members of the Organisation Todt, Reich Labour Service (RAD), and Wehrmacht personnel involved in the project. I would appreciate any opinions regarding the specific variant and period of production. Best regards Michael
