April 11Apr 11 #1 Hi, all! helping a friend here who has his father’s German Honor Cross, but no ribbon. I would like to get a ribbon and replace it, so wondering if anyone has instructions for how to do this style ribbon drape? thanks in advance! Elizabeth
April 11Apr 11 #2 Elizabeth, The triangular ribbon wrap on the awards shown above are Austrian. If your friends fathers WWI service was German the ribbon would be straight sided.

April 14Apr 14 #4 The German award is the same ribbon you show. The crossed swords indicate combat service and lack of them indicate a non-combatant. They are both tied the same for Germans. That is to say straight up and down tie.

April 15Apr 15 #6 Austria was annexed in 1938 into the German Reich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anschluss The Austrian army was incorporated into the Wehrmacht at that time…so 3rd Reich awards/medals were awarded to service members and they were allowed to maintain the “Austrian tri-fold” ribbon design. I apologize for answering…for Sarge Thanks, wow I never knew that, just thought that if they were in the Great War they would wear any KuK awards in the KuK fashion medal bars, but then if they were awarded medals for the Wehrmacht, then they had to wear in in the German fashion.
April 19Apr 19 Author #9 Thanks so much! I double-checked and he is German. So, that ribbon through the ring . . . would it fold down to pin on, or simply be display like a ribbon just threaded through the ring?
