Unknown Tanker Helmet? Maybe?

Featured Replies

I spotted this at an antique shop. They don’t have an ID for it and I can find no markings at all. It looks like maybe a tanker helmet? Or maybe a motorcycle helmet? Do any of you know what this is?
Thanks in advance for looking, and even bigger thank you if you let me know what it is.

Mikie,

I am not 100% sure but it has some similar characteristics of the M1942 Australian Duperite helmet.. Made for Australian paratroopers but never used beyond training.. It looks like fiberglass material and the odd looking leather on the liner looks similar to the sides  of the Duperite helmet... What is throwing me is the number of eyelets around the rim.. Perhaps repurposed as a dispatch riders helmet???

Google Duperite helmet and you'll see what I mean

Best regards

First Pattern Dispatch Rider's Helmet, British Army no?

Here a 1941 dated one. Check under the Sweatband for markings like this one below has.

Wow! Thank you for the ID! I wasn’t able to find it myself. I carefully looked inside but did not see any markings. But now I know what to look for. The shop wants $95 US for it. Which seems to be a really good deal. But it’s out of my budget these days. It’s in beautiful condition. The only thing it seems missing is the cord that weaves through those eyelets that holds the line in place. Maybe I’ll offer $50?

Thanks again!

Here's a photo in my collection of a dispatch rider:

Awesome photo!
Thank you for posting it here!

Thanks everyone for looking and contributing! Much appreciated.
I’ll let you know if I decide to get it. If it’s still there next weekend, and if I have time to go to the shop, I may come home with it.
Retirement is approaching, and a possible move out of state afterwards, so I had resolved to wind up my collecting. Ha! Yeah, right 🤣🤣🤣

I went back this morning and bought the helmet for $50 US. I’ve looked all over and can’t find any markings at all anywhere.
Now I need to find a suitable replacement for the cord that holds the liner in.
