SARGE Posted October 21, 2018 #1 Posted October 21, 2018 Gents, I thought I would post a 1955 dated DDR Volkspolizei Tschako. The black press-fiber body is one piece and impact resistant. The large VP star on the front is the second style having the hammer & sickle within shafts of wheat Wappen in the center. The earlier Tschako had a German tri-color shield design and this was replaced with subsequent uniform changes. The Enlisted chin strap is leather and distinctive in its construction. The Officer chin strap was made of aluminum scales in the same manner as the circa 1936 Polizei Tschako was constructed. The interior has a standard tan German style leather liner which is East German Ministry of the Interior (MdI) marked along with the date of manufacture and the size. Collectors should be aware that these VP Tschakos have been reproduced so caution is advised when buying these rather scarce helmets.
