Question about those Japanese grenades. What's the fabric tie? Is that what you'd pull instead of a pin? These look like the "thermal detonator" that Princess Leia uses in RotJ when she is dressed as the bounty hunter!  

 

How would the Japanese have carried their grenades? Are they metal or ceramic?

Thanks. To use them you untie the cloth tie. Remove the rubber cap. Take the striker and run it over the ignition material. Like a match or a road flare. The ignition lights a 5 second fuse. They are ceramic. Most are white clay.  Rich A. in Pa.
