Old Marine Posted December 10, 2018 #1 Posted December 10, 2018 I have had this patch/badge for sometime. I think this is the Belgian Lion. Can anyone tell me how this insignia was worn? Is this a Cap badge or is it a sleeve insignia. The black backing is securely attached to the back and I don't want to tear it apart to see how the metal insignia is attached or if its marked. The metal insignia measures about 2 inches from top to bottom. The black backing is kind of common on English made insignia. Is this possibly war time English made? Its a really nicely detailed insignia so if anyone can shed any light as to the age and how this would have been worn, I would appreciate it. Thanks Dennis
Old Marine Posted December 10, 2018 Author #2 Posted December 10, 2018 A detail view. The Lion Head and the cross and swords are 2 pieces.
Old Marine Posted December 10, 2018 Author #3 Posted December 10, 2018 The badge is almost 3/4 of an inch high. It seems like it would be clumsy and catch on things if worn as a sleeve insignia. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks Dennis
stratasfan Posted April 26, 2019 #5 Posted April 26, 2019 Boy, Dennis! That is cool! Never seen anything like that in all my looking! Does seem rather odd to wear like a sleeve patch or something. I'll keep my eyes open for something like this! Did the Belgium tab come with it?
kansimba Posted April 26, 2019 #6 Posted April 26, 2019 hi this " belgium " tab is uselly used between 1944 and 1946 by the " bataillon de fusiliers ( rifle's bataillon ) " and the brigade de fusiliers " a link about them : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusilier_Battalions_(Belgium) for the lion head, never see it before @+, hughes
