Wanted to share this Africa Corp pith helmet!

Telling my age but I remember seeing these in the Army Surplus Stores in the 1960s. As a matter of fact I bought one from my local store back then.

Yep, used to be able to get these for just a few dollars. Times have changed.This one is the second pattern felt one. I have its twin in my collection. I prefer the earlier first patterns, just like the way they look better and you certainly see more of them in the period photos.

Overall condition of your pith helmet is excellent.  For whatever reason the cloth covering on the top ventilation piece has been worn off.  The attached image shows what the ventilation should look like - finding a replacement would be a challenge.

Here is my 1st pattern 1941 dated tan canvas pith helmet with the early Tombak WH shields.

 

I am still looking for the green 1st pattern canvas Pith helmet to complete my collection.

 

I also have a nice felt example I have never photographed.

My two piths,we know only the first pattern were worn by the DAK, ignore the numbers, they're for my records.
