SARGE Posted April 10, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 10, 2019 Telling my age but I remember seeing these in the Army Surplus Stores in the 1960s. As a matter of fact I bought one from my local store back then.
warguy Posted April 10, 2019 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2019 Yep, used to be able to get these for just a few dollars. Times have changed. This one is the second pattern felt one. I have its twin in my collection. I prefer the earlier first patterns, just like the way they look better and you certainly see more of them in the period photos. Lanyard Posted April 1, 2023 Share #8 Posted April 1, 2023 Overall condition of your pith helmet is excellent. For whatever reason the cloth covering on the top ventilation piece has been worn off. The attached image shows what the ventilation should look like - finding a replacement would be a challenge.
snake36bravo Posted April 30, 2023 Share #9 Posted April 30, 2023 Here is my 1st pattern 1941 dated tan canvas pith helmet with the early Tombak WH shields. I am still looking for the green 1st pattern canvas Pith helmet to complete my collection. I also have a nice felt example I have never photographed.
