a lovelorn letter in Occupied Japan

Recommended Posts

This letter is from a Japanese girl to her Marine boyfried who is heading back home, without her. It is a sad letter: the last line being "I am very lonely"

Bob, I was honestly gobsmacked when I first read this post. All I could type was what you saw.To some....maybe the majority of collectors, these items are merely cool stuff(am I being cynical?).These items of yours spoke volumes to me,become human not merely objects.

An (unfortunate) after effect of military personnel in other lands.

I'm sure this happened quite a lot. A US Marine being involved with a girl whose last name is Tojo must not have been very acceptable at the time.

She was able to write cursive English in 1946 Japan: I would imagine she was not an ordinary woman for that time and place.
