Help with painted markings on German helmet

Got this helmet awhile back and didn’t think much Of it until I looked it over a little closer and noticed a painted K in the German style then I noticed 3 more of them 2 red one blue and one yellow. I immediately assumed the worst when I saw the letter K’s painted on there but the letters have age and worn off significantly. Also they seem to be in the German style letters.  Does anyone have any idea on this any opinions? Thanks
