Gents,

This is an example of the second style of East German Deutschen Volkspolizei (DVP) green uniform that replaced the M1948 uniform that was blue in color.  The blue uniform was worn from October 1948 until it was replaced by the Model 1954 Volkspolizei green uniform in October 1954.  This was a return to police green uniforms that were very similar to the wartime Model 1936 German Police uniforms.

This green wool uniform was adopted on 1 October 1954.  It is a five button closed collar tunic with a dark green collar and false short cuffs at the end of the sleeves as were on the M1936 Police tunic.  It was worn with green wool breeches or straight long trousers.  Caps were a green peaked cap or a black fiber Tschako with a metal star insignia on the front for men.  This uniform shows 1st Lieutenant / Captain rank by the shoulder boards and collar tabs.  Notice that this Officer quality tunic is tailor made and that it has the new style DDR pebbled buttons with a rim showing a copper color back.  These uniforms are very difficult to find today.

You know, the price of these uniforms are almost what the real NS Zeit Police and Customs uniforms sell for nowadays.  It just goes to show that these early DDR uniforms are quite collectible in their own right.  If they get costly enough perhaps the fakers will quite screwing around with them trying to make them into something they are not.

Here is an example of the East German made Officer cross belt and Tokarev holster that was worn with this uniform.
