Wondering if anyone can tell me about this buckle?

I was lucky enough to find what I think is the original keeper in the box O' stuff.

Thank you all in advance

This is a Spanish Civil War worn Nationalist Elite belt buckle model 31.  The emblem on the front is that of the Spanish Foreign Legion.   There is an earlier version with a crown in the middle representing King Alfonso XIII.  However during the Second Republic of 1931 the crown was removed.

I would say maybe.  I believe this type of design is still in use by the Spanish Military but goes back to the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s.  I found another on the Internet with a different crown design.  I've seen a number of these surplus buckles like the one you have for sale at insignia shows and flea markets so there is probably a way of dating them but I don't know how to date them.
