Fred Borgmann Posted November 14, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2021 German Red Cross Mountain Rescue Service badge. The rope looks to be silver plated and on the back a small piece of brass with a serial number is glued on. The glue is clear and look like it could be apoxy. Any ideas as to how old this might be? Thanks, Fred
Gwar Posted November 15, 2021 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2021 The GDR's German Red Cross was also active in mountain- and water rescue. Let's start with the Mountain Rescue Service [Bergrettungsdienst]. Seen in the photograph, from left to right, are two qualification badges for rock training [Felsausbildung] as symoblized by the rope border, a qualification badge for winter training [Winterausbildung] as symbolized by two crossed skies and a combined qualification badge for rock- and winter training [Fels- und Winterausbildung] with both the rope border and the skies. Gwar Posted November 15, 2021 Share #3 Posted November 15, 2021 A closer look at the two badges for rock training. "BRD" is the abbreviation for Bergrettungsdienst [Mountain Rescue Service]: Photo Credit and Content: HPL2008
