gwb123 Posted December 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2021 The SAC Musuem in Ashland, NE has a small over view exibit on World War II with a selection of representative items. Included is this Good Luck flag that they have framed on the wall. Unfortunately, there is no background on it other than what is mentioned on the exhibit card. Fortunes Of War Posted December 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2021 Thank you for posting this image. It looks like the flag may have been framed at one time but was removed in order to display in this fashion. It appears that the flag is properly suspended between the front and back panel of plexi (probably via acid free spacers). This allows air to circulate around the material, and helps to better preserve it, rather than having the silk cloth pressed against either the front or rear frame. Pressing the flag against the plexi/glass can cause mold and/or mildew to form and also makes it easier for insects to work their evil magic on the cloth (if present). It also looks like part of the upper corner tab and tie string are present, while the lower ones are missing.
