SARGE Posted February 9, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2022 I collect German Police buckle variations. There is a thread on Police Buckles that I put on the forum. My latest variation that I acquired at a local militaria show last month is an Imperial Bavarian Gendarmerie buckle. It is a neat variation in that it is in the seldom seen small narrow leather belt size. This buckle had been on my want list for years and I found it randomly in the corner of a showcase at the show. SARGE Posted March 7, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 7, 2022 Gwar, This seems like a rather comprehensive list of Luftwaffe buckle makers. Have you by chance collated a list of Police buckle makers? Along the line of identifying the maker of a specific buckle there are a couple of things that I have wondered about. Are the maker named leather tabs found on some box buckles always the maker of the buckle as well? How about buckles that are sewn to the belt... that is to say did the belt maker also make the buckle? The M4/# markings that you show indicate a maker of metal products but these only list those makers with a license. The leather markings generally identify the maker in plain German and some buckles are stamped with the maker logo. Random thoughts on my part but what do you think? Gwar Posted June 26, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted June 26, 2022 Sarge, sorry for the late reply, the book we are working on takes a toll sometimes, to answer a few questions, most tabbed buckles (if not a re-stich or field fix, ie, mis-matched) should be the correct maker of the buckle, (S.S. Buckles were NEVER made with tabs). Buckles sewn to the belt (brocades) were probably manufactured with separate components (Fabric maker) and sold by the Hersteller under the buckle maker.. Depending on the regulations the RZM controlled the process in which most TR items were produced, including buckles, although, the RZM didn't control the RAD, so ANY RAD buckle with a 'RZM' marking should be considered a fake, here is the known list of Police buckle makers, which includes the usual suspects M4/19 Ernst Schneider, Lüdenscheid M4/22 Christian Theodor Dicke, Ludensheid M4/24 Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid M4/27 Overhoff & Cie, Lüdenscheid M4/28 Paulmann & Crone, Lüdenscheid M4/30 Berg & Nolte, Lüdenscheid M4/34 Nordwall & Welschehold, Dransfeld & Co, Menden M4/38 Richard Sieper & Söhne, Lüdenscheid M4/39 F W.
