ALL grenades should be inert, there have been instances where vet bring backs have been sold in error and casualties have occurred, be careful and when in doubt consult a qualified individual or organization. RAB Posted February 14, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2022 I'm not sure if there is a one look way to tell for sure, for one you could ask the seller if they have unscrewed the top piece before and or checked it out themself (should be empty of any explosive power), on occasion ive seen some of the kiska type grenades have a hole drilled in the side on inert ones but never really seen that done on type 97 ones. If you have a scale handy and are able to weigh it I believe a complete one is aprox 1 pound, while i weighed mine and it is about 14 or 15 oz. so that might not be a very accurate sure fire way of knowing..
