Nice photo album.  It looks like the Staff Sergeant is in line for a wound badge.

I agree, looks like he has some kind of silver badge already. It kinda looks like a silver wound badge?

Can anyone figure out what unit Hans Mariotti was in?

Hard to tell but it looks like IR 119 (Infantry Regiment 119). The unit was part of the 25th InfDiv and fought at the Western front.

Thank you, I think when you look at all possible numbers 9 makes the most sense. Any idea where I can find information on the 25th? I’ve searched on line but find nothing specific on their participation in France.

Referring to www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de (a German language site) the 25. Infanterie Division was deployed/fought in France at: Aisne, Compiègne, Reims, Laon, Chemin des Dames, Seine, Romilly, Loire, Bourges.

After training with the MG34 and horses it looks like they went into a horse drawn AAA unit.

Nice photos of the neat little horse carts like in the last photograph.  A reminder of how dependent the German Army still was on horse power.

It´s the "Maschinengewehr-Wagen 36", equipment of the Machine Gun Companys of the Infantry Regiments. Nice photos and great Elastolin toy!
